Building Permit Application

Purpose

This application is for the following structures:
 
  • New Construction - Construction of a new multi-family residential building. (3-plex or larger)
  • Additions - Construction of additional structures attached to a building that changes the footprint.  Not considered "New Construction"
  • Remodel - Renovating or remodeling of an existing  building,  that includes structural elements or multiple disciplines (Electrical, Mechanical, and/or Plumbing).
  • Reroof - Permit applications for re-roofs shall include identification of the existing structural roof system, e.g., roof rafters, size, spacing, and span, or truss system as constructed.  
  • Accessory Structure - An additional structure not attached to the primary structure such as a shed, shop, storage building, detached porch, deck, and parking lot.  200 sq ft or more. 

Requirements

  1. Fill out the  permit application;
  2. Include with the permit application the following:
    • A digital .pdf of Infrastructure Plans (*Submit separate document from Building Plans*)
    • A digital .pdf of Building Plans
    • A digital .pdf Lot Layout Plan (Dimensioned plan showing how the building is positioned in relationship to the lot)
    • Structural calculations
    • Energy Compliance report

Approval Process

Once a complete application is received by the Building Department, please allow 14 days from the date of submittal for department review and approval.  If additional information is needed and/or a complete application is not submitted, the review timeline will be extended.

During this timer period the following departments will review the application.  Each department's signature of approval is required prior issuance of building permit:

  1. Planning & Zoning Department
  2. Public Works Department
  3. Carey Rural Fire District
  4. Building Department

You will be contacted should a department require additional information prior to approval.
