Meet the Mayor

I was born in Monteview, Idaho, the first child of Ron and Marlene Welchman. I grew up on a small dairy farm west of Mud Lake, bottle feeding calves, training horses and catching and taming every wild creature I could get my  little hands on. 

I graduated from West Jefferson High School in 1993, a highlight was serving as editor of the High School Newspaper for several years. I attended Ricks College (BYU-I) where I worked as an outdoor youth counselor in Tetonia/Driggs.  During the summer following college, I worked as a wrangler/trail guide in Sun Valley where I met my husband, Cody Mecham, a native of Carey. Cody and I were married in January 1996. We settled in Carey the next year and have chosen to remain ever since. We are the proud parents of three amazing sons.  

I worked as the Planning and Zoning Administrator for the City of Carey from 2003-2010 and the City of Fairfield Planning and Zoning Administrator from 2007-2010.  My husband and I own and run Current Solutions, an electrical contractor company based in Bellevue, Idaho. Emotional/Mental health is something that fascinates me and is vitally important, now more than ever in our world today.  This interest led to becoming a master-certified Life Coach.  And one of the highlights of my day is teaching as an early morning seminary teacher for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

​I have been involved in serving in the Carey community throughout my time here. I have served on Sustain Blaine, the Blaine County Fair Board, CERG (Carey Economic Revitalization Group) and Pioneer Days Committee, among others. I love the youth of our community and I am excited about organizing the Mayor's Youth Advisory Board.  

Elected Mayor of Carey in November 2021, I took office in January 2022. I meet regularly with city staff and various committees and strives to cultivate a close working relationship with them. I also strive to support and collaborate with many entities at the state, county and local level.
