Carey Building Permit Process
Thank you for making your investment in Carey.
The City of Carey is eager to assist you and will answer any questions you have throughout the process of your construction project.
Prior to obtaining a building permit application, you should determine whether your project meets appropriate zoning ordinance requirements and if there are flood plain restrictions. Please contact the Planning and Zoning Department for more information on zoning regulations and flood plain restrictions.
In order to expedite your request for a building permit, you will need to submit the following:
*A licensed architect/structural engineer is required to stamp building plans when structural forces are beyond light from construction as described in the 2006 International Building Code.
Complete site plan (2 sets), drawn to scale with the following information:
- North arrow
- Scale of drawing
- Legal description
- Owner's name, address and telephone number
- Property line and lot dimensions
- Street(s) names
- Setbacks from property lines (front, side, rear)
- Location of all buildings on property
- Curb cuts and driveway widths
- Front entrances
- Square footage of building
- Proposed additions and dimensions
2. Complete building plans (2 sets), drawn to scale that include the following:
- Floor plan
- Foundation plan
- Two building elevations (front and side)
- Typical building section or wall section, showing construction system
- Multi-story houses will require floor framing plans and direction of joists and major supporting members.
- Buildings with trusses or rafters in more than one direction will require roof framing plan.
- Certification is required for pre-engineered trusses (50lb live load)
3. Complete and submit a Building Permit Application (webform or print application here).
4. The following four signatures are required on the Building Permit Application prior to building permit approval:
- Richard Kimball, Carey Rural Fire & Rescue
- Dabny Van Hook, Public Works Department
- Planning & Zoning Department
- Kenny Bailey, Building Department
5. All applicable fees (due prior to issue of building permit).
6. Approval process:
- Once a complete application is received by the Building Department, please allow 7 days from the date of submittal for department review and approval. If additional information is needed and/or a complete application is not submitted, the review timeline will be extended. You will be contacted should a department require additional information prior to approval.
