A planning & zoning commission is a local elected or appointed government board responsible for recommending the boundaries of various zoning districts and the regulations to be enforced within them. They play a crucial role in ensuring that land use aligns with community goals and regulations, promoting orderly development. Additionally, they evaluate and guide land use regulations, interpreting local zoning laws to ensure that development meets community planning principles.

I moved to Carey with my family in 2018 and have lived in the Wood River Valley since 2008. I've worked as a high end Audio, Video and integrated systems project manager and installer in various capacities for over 20 years. I love my family, my chickens and traveling to archeological sites, particularly in Peru. I am a lifelong learner with hobbies that include building custom computers, playing board games, learning Mandarin and playing Warhammer 40K. It has been my honor to be both part of the Carey community and on the Planning and Zoning Commission. 

COMMISSIONER DILLON SIMPSON

Dillon Simpson was born and raised in Carey, Idaho. After graduating from Carey High School in 2010, he moved to Boise, where he lived for over 10 years while completing his education and beginning his professional career. He earned a Bachelor’s degree with majors in Accountancy and Finance, as well as a Master of Science in Accountancy – Taxation from Boise State University. Dillon is a Certified Public Accountant and partner at a public accounting firm located in Boise, Idaho. His career has provided him the opportunity to work with individuals, families, and businesses across a variety of industries while helping them navigate complex issues and plan for the future. Dillon and his wife, Jennifer, moved back to Carey to build their family home and raise their three children in the community where they both grew up. He values Carey’s agricultural heritage and small-town character while helping plan for responsible growth and future opportunities. Dillon also serves as a member of the Carey Rodeo Committee and coaches youth sports.

My family and I moved to Carey from Bellevue in 2025.  Carey reminds us of the small town in Montana that my wife and I grew up in. Ranchers, farmers, and blue-collar workers just living the simple life. I work for a steel building construction company and serve as an EMT/ Firefighter in Carey.  My free time is spent traveling with family to see our adult sons, playing hockey, speaking at men's ministry events, and training. With over 30 years in construction, I look forward to working together with the community representing the P&Z board for Carey.
